    Overview

The grounds and interior spaces of your cemetery or funeral home are a direct reflection of the care and respect you provide to families during their most difficult moments. Stained headstones, weathered mausoleum walls, and discolored interior stone undermine the peaceful, well-maintained environment your families expect.

Lazona Tile Care partners with funeral homes, cemetery management companies, and memorial parks across Arizona to provide professional stone restoration and ongoing maintenance. We understand the sensitivity of working in active cemetery environments and conduct all work with the utmost respect and discretion.

Our services cover the full scope of cemetery stone care: headstone and monument cleaning, mausoleum interior marble and granite polishing, columbarium niche restoration, bronze plaque cleaning, and protective sealing for all exterior memorial stone. We offer both one-time restoration projects and scheduled maintenance programs that keep your entire property looking dignified year-round.

    Recent Memorial Restoration Work

Granite memorial benches, headstones and ledger bases restored across the Phoenix and East Valley metro area. Every marker is cleaned by hand with stone-safe products, then sealed for protection.

Before and after cleaning and sealing of a polished granite memorial bench engraved Forever In Our Hearts in Arizona

Granite Memorial Bench Cleaning & Sealing

Years of hard water spotting, dust film and organic staining left the polished granite dull and chalky. We hand cleaned with a pH neutral stone-safe cleaner, lifted the mineral film, then applied an impregnating sealer so the black and green granite reads deep and clear again. Photos were texted to the family before the birthday visit.

Headstone Base & Ledger Detail Cleaning

Irrigation soil, decomposed leaf litter and dried flower debris had cemented onto the ledger base. Debris like this holds moisture against the stone and accelerates staining. Detail cleaning by hand, no pressure washer, restored the natural granite crystal and the engraved lettering.

Headstone Care Facts Every Grounds Manager Should Know

Memorial stone fails for predictable reasons in Arizona. Understanding them is what turns reactive cleaning into a preservation program.

Water quality, not dirt, is the real enemy

Arizona municipal water commonly runs 12 to 20 grains per gallon of hardness. Every sprinkler cycle that hits a marker leaves calcium and magnesium behind, which builds a chalky white film that dulls polished granite. Cleaning with hard water alone re-deposits it. We clean with pH neutral solutions and finish with a controlled rinse and dry.

Never use household acid or bleach

Vinegar and acidic bathroom cleaners etch marble and limestone permanently, and chlorine bleach can oxidize bronze plaques and leave a haze on granite. Stone conservation practice calls for non-ionic, pH neutral cleaners and soft nylon brushes. We keep pressure washers off delicate and historic markers entirely.

Biological growth returns on a schedule

Lichen, algae and moss re-colonize shaded and irrigated stone within roughly 12 to 24 months in our climate. That is why a single deep clean is not a permanent fix. Scheduled visits catch growth while it is still surface level, before it roots into the stone and requires aggressive work.

    Sealing is preventative maintenance

An impregnating, breathable sealer slows water and oil absorption so soil and mineral deposits sit on top of the stone instead of inside it. Film-forming coatings are the wrong product outdoors, they trap moisture and peel under Arizona UV. Reseal cycles typically run 3 to 5 years depending on exposure.

    The Grounds Maintenance Plan

Built for cemeteries, memorial parks, funeral homes and mausoleum operators. One baseline restoration, then scheduled visits with documented condition notes so budgeting stays predictable and families never find a neglected marker.

White Glove Care for a Loved One's Memorial

Families come to us for one marker, not a whole section, and that work is held to the same standard as any resort floor we restore. We arrive quietly, protect surrounding markers and plantings, clean entirely by hand, and never run a pressure washer near engraved lettering or inlaid bronze.

Before we touch the stone we identify the material, granite, marble, limestone or bronze, and match the cleaner and finish to it. Delicate and older markers receive hand-only cleaning with the gentlest stone-safe solutions available.

When the work is finished we text photographs directly to the family, often before a birthday or anniversary visit, so no one has to drive out wondering how it looks. That single detail is what most of our memorial clients remember.
