## Understanding Travertine: A Stone Born in Water

To understand why steam cleaning devastates travertine, you need to understand what travertine actually is. Unlike granite or quartzite formed under extreme heat and pressure, travertine is a sedimentary limestone created in and around hot springs, rivers, and mineral-rich waters.
